He’s obviously best known for being in every episode of I Love the 1980’s. He’s also of course best known as being the script editor of The Persuasionists, the BBC 2 sitcom.

Where do you see yourself in 500 years’ time?

Dead. Well, necessarily, yeah. Bits of me are falling apart. Has anyone read that book by William Leith, Bits of Me Are Falling Apart? No. It’s a book.

Do you think they’ll ever make a Hunger Games-style film, but based around the ITV daytime quiz show Tipping Point?

I have watched The Tipping Point as it’s one of my mum and dad’s favourites. Whenever I go up to Northampton we always watch The Tipping Point and The Chase and Pointless. But of those three, only Pointless do I watch at home for my own pleasure.

If you had to do a human centipede with two other people, if you had to, but you could choose the two other people, and you’re in the middle, who would you choose?

Well, ’cause other than choosing to. Choosing to have your mouth sewn into the anus of another person. Fair enough. That is absolutely fair enough. Dumbo the elephant – I didn’t say in front. Yeah, behind. In what sentence, if you took out my name and his name, would that sentence become palatable to anyone? That just makes me feel better about it, if it’s a cartoon. I’d go for a cartoon at the front as well. I don’t know, I’ll have to think about it. I didn’t know this was coming up. Okay, I’ll go for the cartoon – how about Edgar, the butler from The Aristocats? Edgar the Butler at the front, Dumbo the Butler at the back. And the reason I’ve chosen Edgar the Butler is because he, if you remember the film – *RH advises he has not.* You’ve never seen The Aristocats? Seriously? You’ve not seen The Aristocats though? *Sings along with RH.* “Eveybody wants to be a cat.” Brilliant tune. “Because the cat’s the only cat who knows where it’s at.” And then there’s a bit where a Russian cat some in. *Sings garbled imitation.* Edgar the Butler, he tries to kidnap the cats, the kittens in fact, to take them away, because he thinks – well, he doesn’t think – he’s correct in thinking that he will get the inheritance of the dottery old person, the heiress, if he gets rid of the cats because they’re in the will. Edgar has got, Edgar has got these trousers with a flap on the back, which seems, certainly from the way they’ve animated it, to be positioned with some kind of buttons or some fasteners. Good person to have in front of you.

Have you ever seen the TV show Friends?

No. When Friends was on I remember, and this must have been pre-DVD, a friend of mine saying they’d taped it off the telly onto some VHS tapes and said, “You’ve got to see this programme, Friends.” And we borrowed the tapes and watched it and thought, This is the most amazing TV show I’ve ever seen. It’s the funniest, weirdest, kind of, self-conscious, wacky shows I’ve ever seen. And it was literally on VHS tapes.
