I was hanging around with the creators of Scrabble GO, the new Scrabble app. Because I think what Scrabble really needed was loads of jewels and cartoons and potential dating opportunities in it. It just wasn’t good enough on its own. So I’m glad they ruined it by changing the app.

Emergency Questions
Is there an author who you would have liked to have heard read their own books on an audiobook from the past, before this technology existed?
Oh, read their own book? That’s interesting. I thought you were going to say is there any old book you’d like to hear on audiobook? I was going to break it to you that they do do them. You can listen to Dickens. I would say – Oddly enough we talked about Strangers on a Train earlier when you asked somebody to murder your father. Um, when I was writing I was listening to all of the Ripley books by Patricia Highsmith, which are such brilliant books, but she was such a curmudgeon and so dark. And so I would love to hear her telling of those stories. I’d love to hear the bits where she was delighted- I suspect they’d be the opposite to the bits where the reader was delighted. And I’d love to hear the bits where she’s horrified because they’d be the opposite as well. But she’s such an incredible writer. Those books are all brilliant. I’d love to have her voice in my head. You’d have to wash your ears out afterwards, I think.
Notes
This episode was live-streamed via Twitch, with RH and guest in each of their own homes due to COVID-19/coronavirus.
This is RO’s fourth appearance.
RH describes a game show he’s imagined called Bumming for Gold; sings theme tune he also created.
RH shares alternative lyrics for the The Sound of Music song “Do-Re-Mi”.
RH mentions that his mother looks a bit like Bobby Robson.
RH asks RO which celebrity he would like to share a death date with, which he notes would be a good emergency question.
