Have you ever seen a ghost?

No. Do you believe in ghosts? Me neither. I used to be so scared of them. I would like to actually, but no. I just… no. It doesn’t work, does it?

So there you go. I’ll have a three-legged yellow cat.

If you could go into a chrysalis and turn into anything else – you can melt in there if you want – and you still have your memories, what would you turn into on the other side?

Oh, the pressure. Because I’m so literal, all I can think is butterfly. No, okay, okay. Well, maybe I could just go for something living a really different life. Just, you know, be a little boy growing up on an island somewhere on the other side of the world. Just me and my three-legged yellow cat.

If you could take one item from any museum or art gallery – and you’re allowed to take it home with you – in the world, what would you take?

Oh wow. There would be so many things that would be really beautiful, but really the thing that’s popped into my head is that amazing painting of Lady Jane Grey in the National Gallery. I don’t know if – I mean, it’s an unusual one to want to look at every day but I do love the painting. We were talking about it the other day, which is why it’s probably fresh in my mind. You must know the one I’m talking about, do you? I think it was painted in the late 1800’s, but it’s of, yeah, the “[Nine] Days’ Queen.” And so she’s only sixteen and she’s got her blindfold on. And there’s the guy waiting with the ax and she’s trying to find the block. But it’s really huge and it’s one of those paintings you can really stare at for a long time. And I was having a chat about it the other day, which is why it’s fresh in my mind. […] People are like, Whoa, bold choice. But I just think it would be nice to have a piece of art where you can keep seeing new things every time you look at it. So let’s go big.
